Preoperative Instructions-Adult

Preoperative Instructions-Adult

  • Your surgeon will tell you what time to arrive for your surgery.
  • For your safety during anesthesia, your stomach must be empty for a period of time prior to surgery. We will advise you when to stop eating and drinking during your pre-admission visit. If you are unable to pre-admit, please call us at 352-333-4555 and one of our staff will be able to provide you with this information, as well as helping you with any questions you may have. In addition, if you take medications on a regular basis, a nurse will instruct you on which of them to take the morning of your surgery.
  • On the morning of surgery, take only the medications that you were instructed to take.
  • Please wear clothing that is comfortable, loose fitting, and easy to remove.
  • Please leave your valuables at home on the day of surgery.
  • Please arrange to have a responsible party drive you home and to stay with you the night of surgery. You will not be allowed to drive yourself home. If there is no one available to drive you home, your surgery may be cancelled.
  • Because of limited waiting space, we ask that you bring a maximum of two people with you.
  • Eating facilities for your waiting family members are within a short walking distance.
  • We ask that a family member remain in the building during your surgical procedure.
  • Do not wear eye make-up, nail polish or jewelry on the day of surgery.
  • Should you have any concerns or questions before surgery, please call the Surgical Pavilion at 352-333-4566.  Our hours are 6:30AM until 6:30PM, Monday through Friday.  Any questions after hours should be directed to your physician.
